Finding Lee has been one of the best business contacts we have made since starting up. Finding an ethical, down-to-earth, friendly and highly interactive SEO master is no easy task -- I searched high and low (was put off by lots of 'fancy talk' and high prices from other prospective SEO guys I was looking at working with) and in the end chose Lee because of his transparency, both in his costings, and in his expectations of what he could do.
Lee originally caught my attention by giving me a clear plan as to what we were going to achieve, and in what time frame. Most other SEO guys were not able to do that. He under-promised and massively over-delivered. He has been a pleasure to work with, and I will certainly be working with him at every opportunity I get. He has taken a brand new website of ours, and ranked it very quickly on Google, achieving position 1, page 1 for one of our key words, and achieving fantastic results even on highly competitive key words.
This guy really knows his stuff -- and if you are confused on anything or not sure what to do next, he always makes himself available to talk you through it and make sure that you are clear. Lee is very passionate about what he does, and I really could not recommend him highly enough to anyone that wanted to:
Boost their Google ranking
Optimise their home page
Completely overhaul their website.
Build landing pages.
Add key word rich content to their site
Understand back links and how to use them
Utilise Facebook pages
Use social media as a whole
Build their online web presence ...and on and on.
If you need any SEO work done, whether you are a large company, or a business start-up, and anything in-between, choosing Lee and SEMtelligence may be the best decision you make this year.

Lee has carried out excellent web work for Portrait Wedding Photographers for over 5 years. He is on the end of a phone, but more than that, he will come to see you face to face to discuss your needs and work out a great solution. Highly recommended.

The Bathroom Co a Bespoke Luxury Fitted Bathroom Company based in Cheshire, South Manchester. Having found the hard way how difficult it is to get behind the jargon that is SEO and find someone who speaks in plain English and actually knows what they are talking about. We have found Lee France to be a breath of fresh air. Lee is very personable and has excellent knowledge of SEO and web sites in general and has already made a vast difference to our traffic and marketing strategy. We look forward to working with Lee in the future and have every confidence in recommending him to any small business or larger organisation.

Choosing a Local Search SEO Company
With an abundance of local search marketing companies to choose from it can be quite a daunting task to choose one. SEMtelligence have provided some useful tips to help you decide:
1) Onsite SEO
Does their service involve any onsite optimisation? Onsite SEO involves manipulating HTML content on web pages. This is really important as elements like page titles and heading tags need to be optimised for local area searches.
2) Local Search Engine Submission
What local search engine do they submit to? Do they manually submit their lisitngs? Fo example, Google Maps relies on the total number of listings, the quality of listings and the consistency of listings in their algorithym. Automation can cause discrepancies in listings.
3) Map Inclusion
Do they include a Google map on your target landing page and contact page?
4) Local Directory Submission
What local directories do they submit to? Volume is not as important as the quality of the resource.
5) Listing Differentiation
If you operate in multiple brick-and-mortar locations do they create individual listings for each physical location? Each physical location should be differentiated by a unique address and contact details.
6) Feedback Strategies
What strategy do the use to obtain postive customer feedback? We recommend including a feedback page on your website that asks customers to rate their experience with you. Keep this process as simple as possible. Alternatively you can create easily accessible links to websites like Yelp and Qype encouraging customers to rate you.
7) Microdata, Microformats or RDFa?
If your local search marketing company is unfamiliar with Microdata, Microformats or RDFa we suggest looking elsewhere.
We prefer to use microdata to markup our web pages; inline with schema.org, an initiative launched by Google, Yahoo! and Bing in June 2011.
In a nutshell, search engines have a limited understanding of what is being discussed on web pages. By including additional tags to web pages search engines can better understand your content and display it in a useful, relevant way. Microdata is a set of tags, introduced with HTML5, that allows you to do this.
A typical local business listing showing the LocalBusiness and PostalAddress types:
<div itemprop itemtype="http://schema.org/LocalBusiness">
<span itemprop="name">Business Name</span>
<span itemprop="description">Business Desciption</span>
<div itemprop="address" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/PostalAddress">
<span itemprop="streetAddress">Street Name</span>
<span itemprop="addressLocality">Town / City</span>
<span itemprop="addressRegion">County</span>
<span itemprop="postalCode">Postcode</span>
</div>
<span itemprop="telephone">0123456789</span>
<a itemprop="email" href="mailto:name@domain.co.uk">name@domain.co.uk</a>
<a itemprop="url" href="http://www.domain.co.uk/">www.domain.co.uk</a>
</div>
8) Avoid Negative Practices
Local search marketing companies that adopt negative practices can seriously damage your website and can lead to your lisitngs being penalised or even removed. Avoid an company offering:
- Create map listings for locations that do not exist.
- Falsify positive reviews about your business.
- Pay customers for positive reviews.
- Write negative reviews about competitors.
A successful local search marketing strategy involves technical knowledge and a great deal of hard work.
